This is one of those books that starts off really well, starts to drag a bit in the middle, but then delivers a really satisfying ending that ties everything together with a simple twist. Despite it feeling just a bit too long, I enjoyed the story. It wasn’t the scariest book, but it was interesting and kept me guessing right till the end. I particularly liked how the boys were portrayed—Jack Peter and his friend Nick share a complicated friendship that feels authentic and relatable.
However, while the children’s characters are well-developed, I felt that the adults in the story could have been fleshed out more. At times, their dialogue seemed a bit strange, which was a bit distracting. I also felt that there were moments in the middle of the book where the pacing dragged, and certain plot elements felt repetitive. Overall, I enjoyed the journey and would recommend it to those looking for a supernatural thriller that doesn’t dive too far into the horror genre.
